The song was written by Lords, Wonder and Ben Watkins. Produced by Juno Reactor, "Control" is an electronic dance song with elements of techno and trance music.

The song received relatively positive reviews from music critics and was also successful in charts, peaking at number two on the Billboard Hot Dance Club Songs. An instrumental version of "Control" was remixed and released on the soundtrack to the film Mortal Kombat (1995).
